She had no face

I was standing in a convenience store,

Buying some grapes to make this new chicken salad wrap I read about on the internet. I wasn't really paying attention, because I hated going to the store ever since the pandemic hit.

I hated the masking, but more than anything I hated the change in the air, the frantic vibes, like people were racing to get out, to get away from each other. It made me sad, thinking about all the opportunities missed, friends never met, soul mates never discovered.

I was deep in thought for what felt like forever, and then with a strange hyper focus, I noticed it, a girl standing holding her face in her hand. She had somehow removed her face and was using it like an attachment, an accessory, not always necessary.

I watched her buy her groceries, walk out and disappear. I have asked everyone I know about her. They all said they didn't know. Well all except one. He thought he had seen her, offered to help me find her. He was supposed to be here two weeks ago. No one had seen him. His number has been disconnected. I looked for him for awhile, until I started getting followed by a green Kia. Then I stopped, but they haven't stopped following me.
